Balance Awareness Week; Doing My Part to Raise Awareness About the Challenges of Dealing with a Vestibular Disorder

All week I meant to post about Balance Awareness Week!

The vestibular system includes the parts of the inner ear and brain that process the sensory information involved with controlling balance and eye movements. If disease or injury damages these processing areas, vestibular disorders can result. Common symptoms of a vestibular disorder include dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium.

    Emily – Thanks for helping to promote Balance Awareness Week! Your story sounds horrendous! Like a lot of other people who suffer with vestibular disorders, it seems like it took a while for you to receive an accurate diagnosis (I can’t believe that your original primary care physician totally disregarded your presenting symptoms!). I’m glad you’ve persevered and I hope you will continue to get better and discover your “new normal” every day.
